Credence by penelope douglas summary6/22/2023 Credence takes place in the mountains of Colorado and you can definitely feel that! One look at PenDoug’s Pinterest board (linked above) already gives me all the vibes. The atmosphere in this book was one of my favourite aspects about it. So, let’s get into it! (This is spoiler-free, btw :)) In fact, it even exceeded my expectations – I’m actually obsessed. If you saw (or still see) me listen to Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down on repeat, 24 hours a day, seven days a week……no, you didn’t□ Honestly though, I was so incredibly excited about this book and I’m so glad it didn’t let me down. Good turn to you, gentlefriend☁️ I’m so excited for today’s post!! The Wilderness Family by Kobie Kruger6/22/2023 Krüger, whose love for this way of life is always evident, had to send her children away to school, bringing them home for weekends-not an easy task: she had first to row across the river, then pick up their car parked on the other side (and often the hippos were obstructive or the river either too low or flooded). There were no telephones or electricity, and no neighbors. Their first post in 1980 was at Mahlangeni, in the far northwest corner of the Park on the banks of the Letaba River-an idyllic spot far from civilization and home to lions, hippos, elephants, and a leopard that patrolled their compound each night. Krüger met her husband at college, married him soon after, but then had to wait a while before he was able to fulfill his dream of becoming a game ranger in Krüger National Park (South Africa’s largest game preserve). Enchanting portrait of the South African wilderness, by a woman who lived there with her game-ranger husband, three daughters, sundry animals, and a lion cub whose best friend was the family dog.

Starship troopers book6/21/2023 This edition of the book is introduced by Hugo and Nebula Award winning author, John Haldeman. Reading that story for the first time, twenty years later, it is interesting to evaluate those responses and consider my own interpretation. Like many other science fiction fans, I had been starved of a cinematic space opera since watching Return of the Jedi (1983).Īt the time, there was considerable criticism of Verhoeven’s interpretation, with many writers suggesting it had not captured the mood and essence of Heinlein’s story. In 1998, aged 22, I went to the cinema to see Paul Verhoeven’s adaptation of Starship Troopers. The Folio Society has produced a beautiful, limited edition of Robert Heinlein’s classic book, Starship Troopers, first published in 1959. Still, there are, afterthoughts- for the reader- in a situation which is slurred over and presumes on one's indulgence. Elizabeth Spencers 1960 novella, The Light in the Piazza, about a retarded American womans romance with an Italian man in Florence, is the source. A novella, no more, is rueful, subtle and bittersweet and Elizabeth Spencer (The Voice at the Back Door) is a writer of particular discretion. With the plans for the marriage formalized, there is a sudden, frightening interruption (Fabrizio's father), but Margaret, committed to the deception she has sanctioned by default, now is prepared to protect it with a lagniappe. There is a certain sea change of perspective- here Clara's sweetness and gentleness have a higher value. After a shortlived attempt to intercept the courtship, Margaret accepts, and then encourages the once unthinkable, impossible idea of marriage for Clara. Lulled by the strangeness, the sensuousness, the beauty of the city, Margaret is at first immobilized by the ""drift of days"" and permits Clara's casual friendship with the reasonably wellborn, wealthy Fabrizio- to whom her retardation is not apparent. In Italy, any ""dream will rise and walk again"", and it is in Florence that Margaret Johnson's long stilled hope of happiness for her daughter Clara, whose pretty face hides a ten year old mentality (a childhood injury) is viable again.

The Toe Tag Quintet by Matthew Condon6/20/2023 The characters within this book are great this old school detective is witty, strong and could have had the making of a hard-boiled character if this wasn’t a cosy crime novel. I don’t know why but I can’t seem to find what is cosy about crime. I’ve just come to the burning realisation that I’m not a fan of cosy crime. There is nothing wrong with Matthew Condon’s writing I think he is great. This is a real joy to read but there is something that just doesn’t sit right with me. But in retirement things are so much more deadly in this collection of five novellas originally published in The Courier Mail. In his hey days, this unnamed detective had to deal with some of the most murderous criminals in Australian history. Retirement can be murder! Former Sydney detective recognises someone from his workdays in his retirement home in the Gold Coast.

Ruining dahlia series6/20/2023 I situate the connection in between Jude as well as likewise virtually every personality in overview appealing, yet perhaps her connection with Madoc most remarkable of all. She invests a lot of overview combating to maintain an activity in advance of everyone else, considering that as Madoc suggested her when she was little, getting power as well as likewise hanging on to it are 2 various factors. She’s currently the power behind the throne, the real leader of Elfhame, which Cardan takes every opportunity to mention. The Wicked King obtains virtually particularly where The Cruel Royal prince release, right in the center of all of it, specifically where Jude had actually been angling to be. So, that being specified, listed below’s the significance. In some cases (a lot of the moment) recognizing conclusion of something makes it absolutely uninteresting as well as likewise unworthy finishing, yet there are a great deal of spins and also dishonesties along with systems taking place in between all the gamers of Elfhame that we rarely identify where to look half the minute, not to mention take a look at right stuff not being clearly inserted our faces. Understanding completion- video game truly did not make the trip arriving any kind of kind of a lot less amazing, nevertheless, along with for that I’m thankful. I understood where this book was going from the very first number of websites. |
